What Is Cloud Rap? Genre, Sound & Artists

Cloud Rap Music is a Rap and Trap music sub-genre with hazy, atmospheric and dreamlike lo-fi sonic qualities that can be achieved with looped vocal samples from female singers. Lyrics are often abstract and with exaggerated metaphors.

It is called Cloud Rap for its lo-fi, hazy, ethereal and dream-like beats. The term was first used by Lil B, who described his music with an image of a CGI castle floating on a cloud.

Cloud Music elements began being used by Clouddead in 2001. Then in the late 2000s, artists like Spaceghostpurrp, Clams Casino and Lil B cemented Cloud Rap as a genre.
